UK gunslinger-for-hire Justin Adams and singer-songwriter Juldeh Camara have a rare musical chemistry that made their previous album, 2007’s Soul Science, top of almost every world music critic’s favourites list last year. Justin and Juldeh have been busy performing at this year’s Womadelaide and recording at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios.

Tell No Lies is just as exciting as Soul Science was, combining raucous and bluesy guitars with Camara’s quicksilver solos on the one-string fiddle in a way that emulates the energy and abandon of the very best rock guitar work. There’s also some beautiful acoustic stuff on here, showing just how well the sounds of Western and North African music can be blended without diluting their essence to create something exhilarating.
