Meet one of 2008’s most exciting new talents. Adele Adkins is a 19 year old soul singer from London and is the most talked about artist in the UK right now . Having only released one limited edition 7" to date (“Hometown Glory”, which now going for up to $100 on eBay!) she is set to be one of the biggest artists of this year. A fan of such diverse artists as Jill Scott, Etta James, Billy Bragg, Peggy Lee, Jeff Buckley and The Cure, Adele’s soul-tinged songs of love’s lost and memories made are set to resonate with all who hear them. “19” is an album that leans on all these influences, and coupled with Adele’s amazing voice, is a beautifully crafted debut album. The album sees Adele working with Jim Abisss (Arctic Monkeys, Bjork, David Gray, Massive Attack), Eg White (Will Young, Darren Hayes) and Mark Ronson (Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, Robbie Williams, Macy Gray).

Introducing Adele, the latest singing sensation from London. Blessed with a rich smoky voice, this young singer is set to be The Next Big Thing, post Amy Winehouse. The Winehouse comparison is unfortunate, yet necessary. There are definite similarities in vocal style, but not in songwriting or production. Adele’s 19 spans pop, jazz, blues and tight songs with big horns and strings when necessary.
Of course there’s a big single in Chasing Pavements, undeniably catchy and a song that would sit comfortably on commercial and indie radio station playlists. This girl is hot right now, and unlike the troubled Amy Winehouse, hopefully without a drug addiction, so 2008 can be the year of Adele.
