Karin Schaupp is one ofAustralia’s finest musiciansand the Flinders Quartet isone of our best chamberensembles. So whoever hadthe great idea to combinethe two, take a bow. This new recording ofguitar quintets featuring works by Pujol,Boccherini, Haydn and Houghton is of thehighest calibre. Three of the pieces werewritten as guitar quintets while the Haydnis an arrangement of one of his stringquartets. Pujol’s Tangata de Agosto is atango- styled piece that gets the CD offto a magnificent start and from there itonly gets better. Compositions this strongrequire the musicians to really understandthe music and to have a great rapport witheach other and this they have in spades.Highly recommended.
