About the Book: There has been minimal shift in the Western discourse about the Orient in terms of the interaction between the Eastern world and the West. The East is consistently portrayed as a demonic barbarous other in Western depictions of the Orient. As a result, the West's egocentric vision of itself is bolstered, and the concept of civilization as such is reduced to a uniquely Western invention. After 9/11, this rhetoric has reached its apex as an ideological discourse that links Islam with terrorism has gained widespread acceptance. At this juncture, the West manipulates the representational discourse to maintain the "otherization" process that divides "us" and "them." In this study, numerous elements that have contributed to the stereotyping of the as a sign of 'Otherness' and a source of social exclusion have been taken into consideration. As its main sources of information for analysis, the study turns to Orhan Pamuk's Snow (2002) and Elif Shafak's Three Daughters of Eve (2016).
