The objectives of the present work were to determine the physical (HHF), economic (HHE) and social (HHS) water footprints and the marginal productivity (PMg) of water used in dairy production of both the farmer and enterprise systems in the state of Sonora, Mexico in the period 2005-2013. The water footprint models of Rios et al (2018) for agricultural crops were used modifying it for dairy farming. The results indicate that theindicate that the composition varied from 1.95 to 0.81 UA of the Business System for each UA of the Farmer System. In Sonora, milk production fell 9.92 million liters (-8.4%) and its value decreased USD 21.26 million (-40%) which had an impact on a decrease in the volume of water used by 10.1 hm3 (-7.4%).
