Resveratrol as a phyto-estrogenic polyphenolic compound extracted from red grapes, has a calorie restriction effect on colorectal cancer cells. It stimulates the metabolic re-programming of cells from the anaerobic glycolysis into oxidative respiration. So that it is called to be a glucose deprivation mimic drug with a chemo- preventive and chemo- therapeutic effects. The calorie restriction effect of resveratrol is the deriving force for the enhanced cytotoxicity and apoptosis and the reduced angiogeneis of colorectal cancer cells.
