Throughout Choice Notes on Joshua to 2 Kings, the spiritual significance and personal reference have been kept well in view; and it is hoped that this volume may become the companion not only of the teacher, or of the local preacher, but of Bible readers and students generally. To open up the Divine Word, to excite interest in it, to indicate the line of thought of the sacred writers, to induce devout meditation, and to point the spiritual lessons that are strewn throughout the pages of the Holy Scriptures has been my simple aim. Frederick Brotherton Meyer was a Baptist pastor and evangelist in England, a contemporary and friend of D. L. Moody and A. C. Dixon. Meyer was involved in ministry and inner city mission work on both sides of the Atlantic, authored 40 religious books, numerous articles and was described as The Archbishop of the Free Churches.
