Echo & the Bunnymen are a rock group formed in Liverpool during 1978. The original line-up comprised vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant and bassist Les Pattinson. Pete de Freitas had joined as the band's drummer by 1980. Their 1st album 'Crocodiles' made the UK top 20 that year. After releasing their 2nd L.P. Heaven Up Here (1981), their cult status was followed by British mainstream success in 1983, when they had a UK Top 10 hit single with The Cutter, from the album, Porcupine, which made UK # 2. Ocean Rain (1984), continued the group's success in Britain, with its lead single The Killing Moon entering the top 10. McCulloch left the band after they issued an eponymous L.P. during 1987, being replaced by singer Noel Burke. Pete was killed in a motorbike accident in 1989. After working together as Electrafixion, Ian & Will reunited with Les during 1997, returning as Echo & the Bunnymen, before Pattinson left the following year. The band has toured and released several albums since the late '90s with some success.
