It was 1980. I was a city kid who wanted to save the whales, the trees, basically, the world. There was a boy with one leg running across the country. I had no idea what I was getting into when I went to work as a timber cruiser working on remote fly-ins in northern Ontario.

Horny moose, ball lightning, way too friendly skunks, bears, and hornets galore, were only a few of the things I encountered. I wanted to meet the boy with one leg…support him in his run, but fate conspired against me.
