This compilation aims to provide a preliminary guide to the study of medieval European demography, kinship, families and marriage, and to describe the attitudes of the general population to each of these groups. It encompasses studies of ritualistic behaviour and iconography in addition to theological and historical studies. Each entry includes a brief description and, where appropriate, a note indicating the period to which the publication in question refers. Many of the entries are cross-referenced and there is a comprehensive index of names.
