This work is a comprehensive reassessment of the influence of Sigmund Freud, and is an unofficial companion volume to the exhibition at the Library of Congress. It ponders Freud’s influence in the context of contemporary scientific, psychotherapeutic and academic landscapes and, equally importantly, considers this influence in the broad cultural terms best enunciated by the poet Auden, for whom Freud had become a whole climate of opinion under which we conduct our different lives .
