“Wittgenstein and his Times’ contains five essays by well-known philosophers, Anthony Kenny, Brian McGuinness, J.C.Nyiri, Rush Rees and G.H. von Wright, which relate Wittgenstein’s thinking and world view to that of certain influential contemporaries. Although it is not surprising that Wittgenstein’s work should have features in common with and react against a number of contemporary thinkers, this has not always beeen recognized. The essays here reveal the striking extent to which he was ahead of his time, so that problems he confronted are only now becoming clear, or have yet to do so.
