Attention is given to practical applications as well as historical and philosophical background. Figures and illustrations have been improved and expanded, and sections within chapters have been rearranged to provide more flexibility for the instructor. It has been expanded to include seven new chapters on such topics as atomic structure and physics, electrical conduction in solids, and nuclear physics.
