The "Sounds of AustraNesia" is a multi-dimensional group givesvoice to some of Cairns' finest Indigenous singers, songwriters andmusicians of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Papua New Guinean,Polynesian and Melanesian descent.Original songs infused with language, with the universal theme ofroots, cleverly combining instrumentation of these cultures withdynamic vocal arrangements, will immediately give the listener anAustra-Nesian experience, offering a spectrum of genres through thesounds of traditional mixed with contemporary flavours, bothacoustified and mainstreamed, all in one package.Each voice and songwriter will showcase individuality, yet a uniquedimension of this group is blending these voices into a soul-stirringchoir with intricate harmonies woven throughout, led by musiceducator, arranger and director, Rubina Kimiia.Members of the band show their versatility not only as singers andsong-writers but musicians too.
