Mendelssohn Double Concerto And Octet

Leschenko Polina Tognetti Richard Aco

The Concerto in D minor for Violin, Piano and Strings is not one\nof Mendelssohn’s most well-known works; composed when he was 14,\nits first two public performances were given 134 years apart. The\nOctet is one of Mendelssohn’s most popular pieces and is expertly\nexecuted here in a clean and well-spaced recording.

Review

The Australian Chamber Orchestra is one of our most acclaimed classical music organisations, touring around the world while being recorded by Scandinavian recording label BIS. Their most recent recording celebrates two works by Felix Mendelssohn, the Concerto in D Minor for Violin, Piano and Strings and the Octet in Eb Major. I had not heard the Concerto before and although it is an interesting work it’s when the Octet starts that their strengths come to the fore. I am a big fan of the Octet and the ACO performance of this work is decisive and exciting.
