Dvorák began to compose his Violin Concerto in 1879 and\ndedicated it to the great violinist Joseph Joachim. While waiting\nto finalise the concerto Dvorák composed Legends, a cycle of ten\npieces for two pianos, which he shortly afterwards\norchestrated.

Performing these two works are the acclaimed Australian\nviolinist Richard Tognetti, as soloist in the concerto, and the\nNordic Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Christian Lindberg. The same\nplayers have teamed up before on disc, namely on Nordic Showcase,\nan anthology of works for chamber orchestra. In the reviews of that\ndisc, Tognetti’s performance was described by the reviewer in\nInternational Record Review as ‘music-making at a truly exalted\nlevel … the most enraptured and heartfelt rendering of the\ninexplicably neglected Svendsen Romance that I have ever heard.’\nReleased or re-released in last 6 months.
