When I first listened to this recording I was reminded how difficult Beethoven is to perform. Although one of the most popular composers to date, this does not make his music any easier. Every note must be crafted, both on it’s own and within the context of the phrase. Joshua Bell’s inaugural recording as the Music Director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields is beautifully crafted. Every note has it’s place in the scheme of each Symphony. The sound of the Academy is always inspiring, but I feel that this new partnership with Bell will bring them to heights as yet unseen.
