Early Moon

Sally Seltmann

Australian singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann has announced her anticipated 5th studio album ‘Early Moon’, due August 2nd via Arts & Crafts. For ‘Early Moon’, Sally chose to work with her husband Darren Seltmann (a founding member of The Avalanches) for the production, arrangements, and mixing of Early Moon. Given the success of their soundtrack for the award-winning TV show The Letdown, the couple felt it only seemed natural to team up together for Early Moon. Recorded in their home studio from March 2020 – June 2021, (right through the pandemic), Sally says of Early Moon: “I wanted to make an upbeat album about honouring your emotions - from contentment to regret – about being in pursuit of a peaceful mind, paying tribute to young love and following your heart. I knew that Darren - with his eccentric sensibilities - would bring my songs to life in a luscious, art-school way.” The album itself is a breath of fresh air. Clever lyrics, confessional storytelling and uplifting sentiments – Early Moon is a response to our complex minds and the relationships we build or break. Layered guitars, energetic drum beats, piano, rich harmonies, and synths all combine to create the lush landscape that Sally’s ethereal vocals rule over. ‘Please Louise’ is a friendship breakup song. Anthemic, with a 70s flavour, ‘Please Louise’ features Johnny MacKay on guitar, Darren Seltmann on drums, and Sally on piano, vocals and punchy harmonies. Other highlights include ‘Lovers Lie’, with it’s classic piano chords and euphoric group harmonies. “I was inspired by an article I read in the New York Times called Good Lovers Lie’, says Sally. “We are always subconsciously telling our lovers little lies, complementing them when they look terrible, telling them we miss them when we don’t, and in a way, this is what keeps the love alive.” Darren Seltmann’s production is showcased on ‘Table For One’, with it’s swells and layered textures. And then ‘Float With You’, written with Cary Brothers and Darren Seltmann, the listener is cradled in a soft cocoon, as Sally sings about what it is to hang in there in a long-term relationship. After falling apart, being diagnosed with Bipolar II then learning how to manage her illness, and collaborating with many songwriters, playing loads of live shows, and writing a book - Sally Seltmann is back with a brilliant collection of songs! Early Moon is an arresting album that will pull you in close, tell it like it is, and leave you wanting more.
