His death in October 1990 did nothing to diminish his legacy, still deeply felt to this day, 100 years after his birth. He was the epitome of a universal musical genius: Leonard Bernstein - conductor, composer, pianist and music educator, a crossover artist in the purest sense of the word. Maestro of a vast repertoire from classical to jazz, from songs to symphonies, he gave America its musical voice.
