The first new Trio Mediaeval album in four years (since Folk\nSongs), and the first since Stella Maris (2005) to feature medieval\nsacred music, A Worcester Ladymass presents a reconstruction of a\n13th century votive Mass to the Virgin Mary, based on manuscripts\nand fragments originating in a Benedictine Abbey in the English\nMidlands. Inserted amid the medieval music are a Credo and\nBenedicamus Domino specially written for this programme by Gavin\nBryars, one of several leading contemporary composers who have\nchampioned the Trio.

On their fifth release onECM New Series, and theirfirst in four years, Oslo’sTrio Mediaeval have chosena work from the thirteenth century, a reconstruction of a votive Mass tothe Virgin Mary, based on manuscripts andfragments originating in an English BenedictineAbbey. The original manuscripts weremissing a Credo and a Benedicamus Domino,so the trio invited English composer GavinBryars to compose the appropriate settings,which sit very well with the mediaevaloriginals. This is a stunningly beautifulperformance from this brilliant trio.
