Stylistic boundaries mean little to (Lucinda) Williams, who on this engaging and often brutal album even has a crack at rapping on two tracks and carries off some ragged Neil-Young-and-Crazy-Horse-style rocking on the deliciously titled_Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings_. Williams’ musical mission is to explore romantic disappointment and the effect on the soul of constant yearning. Lucky for us that such a consummate artist is doing it.
