The Seeing Stick: Jane Yolen and Daniela Tereazini

This is one of the most beautiful picture books I have ever seen. The Seeing Stick is a re-telling of an old Chinese story by Jane Yolen, who is sometimes described as the ‘American Hans Christian Anderson.’

The Emperor offers a reward to the person who can cure his daughter Hwei Ming’s blindness. A ragged old man arrives in Peking to answer the Emperor’s call for help. The old man teaches Hwei Ming to see in her own way through the power of touch, and the world springs to life under the young girl’s fingers.

First published in 1977, and out of print for some time, this edition features the beautiful paintings of Daniela Terrazini, with laminated and embossed pages.
