Ravel, Daphnis & Chloe, Haitink
The sinuous, lilting ‘choreographic symphony’ Daphnis and Chloe by Maurice Ravel is considered one of the greatest works of the early 20th century. Ever present on concert hall stages, it’s one of those few works that audiences love to hear and musicians love to play. In this 1979 recording of the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Bernard Haitink conducting, the full ballet is performed in all its luscious glory. Recorded live it shows as the excitement ebbs and flows naturally throughout the whole ballet. A must for any fan.
