Music of Vladimir Martynov, Kronos Quartet
I find every recording of the Kronos Quartet somehow fills up that little hole inside me somewhere that needs philosophical consolation. Without words they convey integrity in their musicianship and most often for me, their choice of repertoire. This new recording features music by contemporary Russian composer, Vladimir Martynov who aside from writing an original work for the Quartet, also rescored Schubert’s Quintet (Movements 1 & 2). Although the first track is almost more like film music in it’s sound world, it moves into more contemporary musical ideas as the recording progresses. This is yet another gem that should grace the shelves of all msusic lovers.
