This release from Teatro Real in Madrid is a brilliant pairing of Tchaikovsky’s one act opera Iolanta and Stravinsky’s three act opera Persephone. So many similarities and yet so many differences, this is a must for any fan of opera who loves contemporary ideas as well as some simply stunning music. Peter Sellars was the brains behind both theses productions and although there are moments a bit left of centre this is a highly enjoyable performance that we are lucky enough to have immortalised on DVD.
