Fra’Diavolo: La Musica Nelle Strade
Marco Beasley and Accordone are former members of the baroque ensemble L’Arpeggiata, whose La Tarantella and Alla Improviso are all-time Readings’ favourites. Beasley, now full-time leader of his own group, has toured this magical show around Europe for a decade: it brings to life the tale and times of a legendary Neapolitan guerrilla and freedom fighter against the French occupation of Naples at the turn of the eighteenth century, Michele Angelo Pezza a.k.a. Fra’Diavalo (‘Brother Devil’). Mixing tarantellas and vocal pieces featuring the magical voice of Pino Vittoria, this is a timeless and earthy exploration of the early music of southern Italy.
