Fleur de Paris

The 12 Cellists thrilled Australian (well, Sydney) audiences who were lucky enough to see them perform as part of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s recent Australian tour. The newest release from the ensemble is a selection of French music, featuring well-known works by Debussy, Satie and Ravel alongside interpretations of songs by Michel Legrand and Charles Trenet. The eclectic selection is rendered surprisingly coherent by the charmingly lush arrangements and the warm, rich timbre of the ensemble, which seems perfectly suited to this music. For those looking for something a little heavier, the rendition of Poulenc’s choral work, La Figure Humaine, is stunning.
