Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky
This production, along with the Delius’ Village Romeo and Juliet are different than any of the others in our April 2012 sale, in that it’s a film version of the opera. This opens the scope of the film to new levels, not being constrained by the stage itself or indeed, an audience. Although it is odd sometimes with the random bursting into song, or the recitative style, the use of colours, nature and close ups brings the watcher right into the heart of the characters and drama. There is still the quality of sound found in stage productions with obviously lots of good lip synching and pre-records.
