To Survive: Joan as Policewoman

JAPW is Joan Wasser, a multi-instrumentalist who has played in bands such as the Dambuilders and Those Bastard Souls with Jeff Buckley’s guitarist Michael Tighe. In 2002, she formed Joan as Policewoman, a reference to the classic 70s cop show starring Angie Dickinson. Her breakout release Real Life was an instant classic scoring rave reviews, which Joan backed up with amazing live shows in 2006 in Melbourne and Sydney.

It is with great pleasure that we greet her new CD, To Survive. The opening track, Honour My Wishes, is slow and plaintive, then a track like ‘To Be Loved’ is just so joyous. This CD moves so effortlessly between musical styles. ‘The Track Magpies’ is reminiscent of Carole Bayer Sager or Burt Bacharach. ‘Start of My Heart’ speaks to me of that one moment in your life when someone loves you just right and that’s when you thank him or her from the start of your heart. The rollin’ sound of Furious makes you want to strive for boldness. The CD closes with the uplifting ‘To America’ to complete this collection. Deep, profound and meditative, nothing else comes close to the brilliance of Joan As Police Woman.
