The Super Amazing Adventures of Me, Pig by Emer Stamp

This is the second outing for dear Pig and his friend Duck. Although I’d highly recommend starting with their first story, The Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of Pig, the follow-up stands alone and weaves the previous story in very nicely.

Pig is a kind and dangerously gullible animal - dangerously because people are always out to get him. In Book 1 it was Farmer (who wanted to eat him). Things look better in Book 2 because the new farmers, referred to as Mr and Mrs Sandal, are vegetarian. And they even have a lovely Kitty who wants to befriend Pig…uh-oh, don’t be fooled! Kitty is just trying to get rid of Pig so she can have Mr and Mrs Sandal all to herself! Fortunately, Duck is very switched-on, and once Pig has seen the truth about Kitty they hatch a fantastic plan.

The combination of Pig’s ignorance and Duck’s intelligence is delightful and makes for consistent giggling. Very good readers of 6 and all the way up to 9 or 10 year olds will find a lot to enjoy in this wonderfully silly story.
