The Blackstone Key
In Cambridge in 1795, Mary Finch, a young school teacher, sets out on a journey to visit her uncle, her only living relative after the death of her parents three years before. Her uncle’s request that she visit him has come as some surprise, given that he and her father had not been on speaking terms since her father had married her mother. When their journey is halted after an encounter with a crashed carriage, Mary attends to the victim, and, to her surprise, receives a cryptic message warning her that she is in danger. His warning is soon borne out when she finds out that her uncle is dead, and that she herself has been taken captive. Her inheritance from her wealthy uncle has placed her in danger, and Mary is left with nothing but her wits to use, in order to work out just who has a motive to rob her of it.
