Molly and Mae by Danny Parker and Freya Blackwood

The vicissitudes of friendship are perfectly portrayed in Molly & Mae: the fun, frivolity and sometimes the discord. As the two girls embark on a long train journey from the country to the city, their playful antics are disrupted by a squabble. Oh dear, a sulky silence can make a lengthy trip seem so much longer.

The illustrations perfectly illuminate the excitement and boredom of a train trip. Freya Blackwood is one of the best artists at depicting children in all their wonderful ways and Danny Parker’s succinct text allows for her to fill out the story beautifully.

A lovely story for 3 and up.
