Judy Horacek: If You Can’t Stand the Heat

Judy’s work has been part of Melbourne for a long time. It is wonderful to have her back here in the form of this wonderful collection of cartoons. What has always appealed to me about Judy’s work is not just her withering disdain for politicians, lazy men and housework, but that somehow she knows exactly how we are feeling at the right time.

If You Can’t Stand the Heat, fortunately, rips apart environmental sceptics. She does this using quirkiness, penguins and mermaids. On top of that discourse, one also gets Judy’s understanding that life is really made up of a series of boring moments and decisions. The portrayal therefore of our lives is what in the end makes us laugh out loud because we know she speaks the truth!
