January: Marcin Wasilewski Trio

‘In the entire history of Polish jazz we’ve never had a band like this one. They just keep getting better and better.’ After the trio’s last album won critical praise, these comments by mentor and employer, the great Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko, affirm certain truths. January confirms Wasilewski, Kurkiewicz, and Miskiewicz as one of the outstanding piano trios in contemporary jazz music. Their 15 years’ experience together has created a musical symbiosis which is characterised by what could almost be described as mutual intuition. Wasilewski’s compositions are accompanied by fine interpretations of, among others, Carla Bley’s King Korn and Prince’s Diamonds and Pearls. Subtle intensity and fluid interaction combine to create wonderfully absorbing music. Highly recommended.
