Jake Bugg by Jake Bugg

It has been a meteoric rise for 18-year-old Jake Bugg. An appearance on Later… with Jools Holland and a support gig for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds has brought him to the attention of the music world.

He sounds like an English Bob Dylan, or Donovan, with a style that I would call folk-with-attitude. There is a touch of rockabilly and skiffle on some tracks, but he is essentially a singer-songwriter who writes about what he sees.

Growing up on a council estate in Nottingham where drugs and police visits are common clearly influenced his stories, and while there is a bit of naivety in his lyrics, you can’t help but feel that we will hear a lot more of Jake Bugg.
