I feel like encores are the flavour at the moment. There are lots of albums coming out from all over the place featuring favourite encores of particular performers. It’s a great way to have a peak into the mind of the musician as these works are something that’s close to them, that they can pull out of their back pocket when need be. Yuja Wang is rocketing to world domination of the piano through her exclusive Deutsche Grammophon recording contract and this album is a credit to her. Although featuring usual array of Etudes, Preludes and Waltzes, this also has a delightful rendition of Dukas’ Sorcerers Apprentice, Gluck’s Orfeo, Bizet’s Carmen and more.
