Antics: Interpol

An electrifying sophomore effort from NY’s second favourite sharp-dressed New Wavers, Antics is an intense, brooding effort. There’s a bit more space in the arrangements and Paul Banks’ vocals are more powerfully assured. Banks still reminds of Ian Curtis (Joy Division) and David Gedge (The Wedding Present) in places, but on the beautiful “Not Even Jail” his crooning is almost Bowiesque.

Their range of emotional expression still runs from grey to grey, albeit sometimes a more uplifting grey…on “Length of Love” they could even be accused of being funky. Classy, rockin’ stuff.
