All too often the experience of those who receive family therapy is neglected in family therapy theorizing and literature; this in turn affects practice. The authors of this book believe that an over-emphasis on general systems theory within the family therapy movement gives practice an essentially mechanistic underpinning which loses sight of the human nature of the undertaking. As a result, the recipients of therapy effectively become invisible.
