This is Chan master Sheng-yen’s commentary on the Heart Sutra. The Chan school of Buddhism emphasises a living wisdom, directly experienced. Perhaps the best known of all sutras, the Heart Sutra is recited in Buddhist centres, temples, and monasteries around the world and distils the teachings of the Buddha to their purest, clearest, most concise essence. Its popularity and importance to Buddhists is understandable.
