I’ve Been Trying to Tell You

The London trio return with their 10th studio release, I’ve Been Trying to Tell You, an album about optimism, youth and the late Nineties.

The album release is accompanied by a sumptuous film of the same name directed by acclaimed photographer Alasdair McLellan. The film premieres in September alongside The Films of Saint Etienne - a special weekend of screenings and Q&As at BFI Southbank.

Without wanting to show our workings, I’ve Been Trying to Tell You is about memory and how it plays tricks on you. Given that no one has felt very optimistic about anything (except Leicester City fans) for the last seven or eight years, it’s easy to look back at the late nineties and remember it as an endless, carefree raveup with Labour in power, the Spice Girls at Number One, and everyone optimistic about the future. But of course it wasn’t really like that, we’ve just chosen to forget the bits we don’t want to remember,‘ says Bob Stanley.
