Se presenta un analisis sobre una denuncia y pesquisa inquisitorial que realizo el Santo Oficio de Mexico, entre 1605 y 1608, sobre el rechazo que hizo el parroco del pueblo nahua de Mecatepec, Tabasco, de una figura de San Sebastian que tildo de simple palo seco, y las acciones consecuentes de las comunidades indigenas y espanolas locales ante este hecho y la expulsion de la figura del santo de los limites del pueblo de Mecatepec, y de como estas conductas pueden ser interpretadas en el contexto del Tabasco del siglo XVII.
