When Jeff Tweedy sings, ‘Maybe the sun will shine today, the clouds will blow away’, from the opening track Either Way, you soonrealise the experimental nature of the last two studio albums is a distant memory, albeit a fond one. Beautiful melodies and gorgeous guitar work and, of course, Tweedy’s heartfelt singing make for a great listening experience. To this reviewer, the album is a throwback to the earlier albums with its strong Americana roots. Written mostly in the studio by the full band, this album seems to say ‘we’re happy with who we are’. A new Wilco album is always something to look forward to and this one is no exception. Sky Blue Sky is released on May 12.
