Small Change for Stuart

Lissa Evans

Ten-year-old Stuart is very short for his age. His surname is Horten. Yes, he gets called Shorty Shorten (his parents are very clever people, but not very sensible people). However being short is soon the last thing on Stuart s mind when he and his parents move to their old town of Beeton and he is swept up in a quest to find his uncle s old workshop his famous magician, and also very short, uncle, that is … The first children s fiction novel by Lissa Evans, this is a delightful, quirky adventure that will appeal to all fans of Roald Dahl.

Review

lissaevansThis is a ripper little adventure that has magic, mystery and family intrigue.

Stuart and his family have moved back to his dad’s hometown where he finds out that a great uncle, whose disappearance has never been solved, was also a magician.

Almost immediately Stuart stumbles on clues to his vanishing but annoyingly is intercepted by three neighbouring sisters, one who turns out to be intrusively persistent and a surprisingly good detective, even for a girl!

Quirky, funny and baffling, Small Change For Stuart is a marvellous read for ages 8–12.
