This is a very action-packed and romantic historical fiction novel. Bruno is a common working man and exceptional prize fighter in London in 1775 when he's arrested for multiple manslaughters over a street fight. He is sentenced by the court to transportation, which was a common sentence where London convicts were sent to America to serve as laborers for seven years and then be freed. Bruno's new owner uses Bruno as a prize fighter in deadly combat matches until Bruno escapes. Bruno flees across the fierce frontier with two former captive companions. They face many dangers and adventures as they try to reach Canada where the English and American laws can't touch them. Along Bruno's journey he finds and loses love repeatedly.
