Islam is a complete and perfect religion, fully compatible with the innate human nature (fitrah). One of the unique aspects that sets Islam apart from other religions is its comprehensive guidance on every aspect of human life. Where other systems fall short in providing a complete and balanced way of living, Islam presents a full-fledged code that spans from personal reform to collective betterment. An essential component of this code is the etiquette of life-a set of teachings that cultivate good manners and proper conduct within society.
In the modern era, we are witnessing an unprecedented decline in moral and social values. This downfall is rooted either in ignorance of religious teachings or neglect in practicing them despite being aware. Alarmingly, even those regarded as knowledgeable are not immune to this decline. In light of this growing concern, it has become necessary for educational institutions to include the subject of social etiquette in their curriculum.
Recognizing this urgent need, Kanz al-Madaris, the reputable educational board affiliated with Dawat-e-Islami-a global Islamic movement committed to the love of the Prophet ?-has incorporated this topic into the syllabus of Islamic universities. When selecting a suitable book to introduce the subject, the board found that although many books on social conduct exist, most either lacked thoroughness or failed to align with Islamic law in various places.
It is important to note that Muslims only acknowledge a practice as a moral or social value if it is endorsed by Islamic teachings. With this principle in mind, the Research and Development Department of Kanz al-Madaris was commissioned to produce a book that not only covers the etiquettes of life comprehensively but also strictly adheres to Islamic principles. The aim was to create a work that could guide students and readers towards good character, refined manners, and moral integrity-all rooted in the teachings of Islam.
The efforts of the department were made smoother and more effective through the guidance and support of the Board's Chairperson, Haji Junaid al-Madani, whose dedication and vision played a pivotal role in the project's completion. With the help and mercy of Allah, and under the spiritual gaze of the Beloved Prophet ?, this work was successfully completed.
This book, The Etiquette of Life, is more than just a guide-it is a much-needed resource for the times we live in, aiming to revive the noble traits of Islamic character and behavior, especially among the youth and students of knowledge.
