Rains Upstream, Floods Downstream

The book "Rains Upstream, Floods Downstream: The Case of the Uruguai River in Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul" was developed as a practical activity for the course "Geotechnologies Applied to the Preparation of Agricultural Reports and Expertise" in the Aquaculture Engineering program at UNIPAMPA, taught by Professor Cassiane Jrayj de Melo. Each edition of the course addresses current topics, utilizing geotechnologies and artificial intelligence for data analysis and academic writing. The chosen topic for this book is the relationship between rainfall in upstream municipalities-Itaqui, Sao Borja, and Garruchos-and the levels of the Uruguai River in Uruguaiana, based on data from the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANA). The text presents the socioeconomic and environmental context of the floods, discusses correlations between rainfall and river elevation, and suggests monitoring and prevention practices. More than a detailed analysis, the project aims to integrate the use of AI in education, encourage practical application of content, and ultimately publish a book that contributes to participants' academic curricula.
