Every spring, I ordered painted lady caterpillars for students to observe the metamorphosis process while teaching pre-kindergarten. I stocked my classroom with books about butterflies, formed stations about butterflies, and hung pictures of butterflies. I did anything and everything to get the kids excited about the concept of a life cycle. However, I found that most books available about butterflies were wordy and filled with too much information for my pre-k students. I wanted something that was focused on ABCs, with minimal words, and filled with beautiful illustrations of real butterflies. That's why I created Butterfly ABC's-a book geared for this young age group to read over and over while expanding their knowledge.
