Eyes on the Endangered

Experts estimate that 25% of all species in existence at this moment could be extinct, or extinct in the wild, within twenty years. If that surprises you, you’re not alone. Eyes on the Endangered was written to share some of the information that the author learned about earth’s fragile ecosystem and the existing risks to biodiversity on our planet. This simple introduction to the issues before us includes more than 50 photographs of wildlife that may be the most familiar to the reader, and which were taken by the author at zoos and wildlife sanctuaries that you too can visit, and support. The organizations that exist to preserve and protect our wildlife are critical to the ongoing existence of the 1500 species of mammals currently at risk of extinction. Those organizations include zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, wildlife parks and associations that are actively, aggressively, dealing with the life & death challenges facing some of our most beloved animals. More than 100 species of mammals have disappeared from earth within our lifetime. It is up to us to do what we can to reduce the ongoing decimation of all at-risk species: mammal, reptile, fish, bird or plant. Projections are that sixteen of those species go extinct every day. The first step? Become familiar with the issues and assist where you can. This book is a simplified overview of the images, but it includes suggested resources for deeper study.
