The Hell in which the soldiers who fought the Pacific campaign of WW2 was always just that. Hell. The camps each of these men struggled to stay alive in were nothing short of the barbed wired, heavily gaurded, misreable atmosphere, disabling, misquitoe and whatever else type of infection filled insect, any one could ever imagine and they would be right. The health conditions were non- exisitent. The food could have been air for all the substance it was. The living conditions were mud, if you were lucky, but mostly ram shackeld huts or more than likely a hole in the ground filled with up to a dozen or more men. These were the horrors any pilot or infantryman could expect if they gto caught by Japanese soldiers during WW2. This is the first hand story of one of these journeys by one of the soldiers that was able to escape and get back to freedom. But then after all the nightmarish visions this man suffered, could anything truly be called freedom once again?
