Dress up and come along to meet the Queen of the Fairies, author Shirley Barber, at a very special fairy and elf party. Shirley will be reading from her stories, showing us drawings, and talking about the world of the fairy folk.

Shirley Barber grew up on the island of Guernsey in the English Channel and by the time she was in her teens she was regularly winning prizes in art competitions. An item in a local paper when she was twelve noted prophetically that ‘cats, dogs and fairy stories are among Shirley’s favourite subjects for illustration’.

Shirley emigrated with her family to Australia in 1965, and while working as a freelance fabric designer she continued to paint, draw and write stories. In 1985 her first book was finally published. Since then she has written countless books about fairies, mermaids and animals, all with her distinctive, much-loved illustrations.

Shirley’s latest releases include the four books in the Little Fairy series and a new picture book, All the Jewels in Fairyland. Later in 2013, the much-loved Martha B. Rabbit books will be re-released.

There will be prizes for the best dressed elf and fairy.
